The Best Nail Care Routine for Healthy Nails
Want healthy nails? You have to look after them. Here’s a great nail care routine to restore your nails back to health.
Nail Care Routine for Healthy Nails
Step 1: Tidy up your cuticles
Add a drop of cuticle remover like The Edge Cuticle Remover Serum on each nail and massage it in. Gently push your cuticles back with a cuticle pusher. Don’t trim them yourself. We’d advise you to get your cuticles trimmed by a trained nail tech. Your cuticles are there to protect your nail bed and if you damage them, it can cause an infection.
Step 2: Trim and file your nails
The next step in your nail care routine, trim your nails with a nail clipper. Keeping your nails a reasonable length will help prevent breaking and snagging. Once you’ve trimmed them, file your nails. Our top tip: invest in a decent nail file and avoid harsh emery boards as they are damaging to the nail.
Step 3: Buff
This is one of the most underrated steps in a good nail care routine. Buffing the surface of your nails creates a smoother surface for polish and it gives them a healthy shine. Think about it, would you paint something without buffing away any lumps and bumps first?
Step 4: Hydrate your cuticles and hands
Apply a drop of a nourishing cuticle oil like Silcare Cuticle Oil Winter Spice onto nails and cuticles and massage in. Then use a good hand cream and massage into your hands, focusing on any dry areas. Wait a little while for the nourishing ingredients to do their thing, then you’re ready to start on polish (or not).
Step 5: Apply nail treatment or polish
At this stage, you need to decide whether you want to apply a nail polish or treatment. If your nails need some tlc and you want to give them a break from polish, opt for a treatment. Applying an intensive nail treatment like CND RescueRXx Daily Keratin Treatment can transform your nails. It’s packed with keratin proteins and jojoba oil which bond to the natural nail to strengthen weakened or damaged nails and restore moisture. Your nail care routine is now complete!
If you want to apply polish, swipe a cotton pad soaked in nail polish remover across each nail to remove any oil. Then apply a good base coat, wait for it to dry, then follow up with your nail polish of choice. We’d recommend a nail polish that’s free from nasties that will dry out and weaken your nails. Right now we love OPI’s Nature Strong vegan nail polish collection.
Remember to apply thin coats and wait for each coat to dry before sealing your mani with a good top coat.
So there you have it, a great nail care routine for healthy nails. What does your nail care routine look like? What are your go-to products? We’d love to know!
