What are Acrylic Powders?

Acrylic powders are a great way to create nail enhancements. But what are they and how do you use them?

What are Acrylic Powders?

Acrylic powders are another way of extending the length of natural nails. They provide a professional finish and are super durable. They’ll last for weeks before you have to soak them off.

Acrylic Powders- Preparation and Application

What you’ll need:

Nail tips and nail glue- the base for the acrylic powders;

Sanitiser, cleansing solution, dehydrator, bonder, and primer- to prep the nail;

Tip cutter-to cut your nail tips into shape;

Buffer-to smooth the gradient between the natural nail and the nail tip.

Once you’re armed with your tools and products:

Apply primer and stick on the nail tip. Cut it into shape but you don’t need to be too precise at this stage. You can neaten it up with a nail file later.

Once the tips are dry, gently buff the surface.

Acrylic Powder Application

What you’ll need:

A liquid monomer-when mixed with acrylic powder, this becomes a gel;

An acrylic powder;

A dappen dish;

A brush;

A nail file (we recommend 100/180 and 240/240 files).

Fill your dappen dish with liquid monomer. Dip your brush in it lightly, then dip it into the acrylic powder. You should have a neat bead of liquid gel which you then apply to the nail. Start at the base and work upwards, aiming for even coverage. Allow it to dry and buff the surface of the nail. Use your nail file to shape the nails into the desired shape.

What About Finishing Touches?

Our acrylic powders are available in white, clear, or pink. If you’ve used white or pink powder, apply a top coat. If you’ve used the clear powder, you might want to apply a coloured gel polish or nail polish.

While acrylic powders don’t require an LED or UV lamp, gel polish does. So remember to cure after your colour, apply your top coat, then cure again. Finish by cleansing the nails and applying cuticle oil.

 I Want to Try Acrylic Powders-Where Do I Start?

If you haven’t tried acrylic powders before, our starter kits are a great place to start.

The Edge Acrylic Liquid and Powder Kit is perfect as a training kit or introduction to the acrylic powder technique.

 The Edge Acrylic Nails Quick Dipping Kit is a perfect starter kit if you want to get into the world of acrylic enhancements.
